When I first discovered Ibn Sina (c. 980–1037), he immediately became one of my heroes. A Persian scholar, he mastered the most advanced knowledge of his time across an incredibly wide range of fields, including medicine, philosophy, physics, astronomy and mathematics.

Learning everything about everything may be an impossible ambition, but it has inspired the way I approach both life and research. The questions that excite me most are those that seek to understand how the universe works at its most fundamental level.

Equality and inclusion are central to how I approach research, teaching, mentoring and public engagement. As a woman from Iran who has built an international career in physics, I am aware of the barriers that can affect women and people from underrepresented backgrounds.
I am committed to helping create a scientific community in which people from all backgrounds can participate fully, develop their potential and progress into positions of leadership. I put this commitment into practice through mentoring, outreach, public talks and committee work, as well as initiatives designed to make fundamental physics more accessible and to challenge narrow assumptions about who can become a scientist.
